Hello, Amazing Subscribers... all THIRTY-TWO of you delightful beings!!
I’m so glad to be invited to your inbox!!! If you are new to Repurposed Kate, WELCOME! If you’ve been with me for a while, WELCOME BACK! I hope this email finds you well as week #8 of 2024 comes to a close.
What’s This About?
If you have been with me from the beginning of my Substack journey, you know that a short list of intentions created monumental changes for me in 2023 and inspired me to start Repurposed Kate. The ultimate goal for 2024 is to design a life (with limited resources) in which I am happy, motivated, and self-sufficient. If I can do that at 51 years old, anyone can do it. Thank you for subscribing and holding me accountable for living my intentions and sharing my results in real-time.
Last Week's Intentions and Results
Here are a few of my achievements and setbacks from last week:
1. Keep Babies Safe From Coyotes
The calf population is growing by leaps and bounds! Since last week's update, we’ve added 23-26 babies to our books. We haven’t lost anyone to predators (that we can tell), but we are seeing signs that we underestimated the numbers we are up against.
Unfortunately, one of the momma cows passed away from unknown causes last night. Coyotes paid her a visit and did what coyotes do before we made morning rounds and discovered her. That means one of the sixty-five or so calves in that herd is an orphan. We just don’t know which one. Tomorrow will be a critical day for figuring it out. If it’s not old enough to already be eating hay, he’ll have to be brought to my house. The nurse cows are here, and they’ll take care of an orphan.
This is what part of my week looked like:
Mushrush babies: There should be 80 born in this herd.

Warning: the music might be loudish. Mushrush Mommies (Not Mushrushes, just having Mushrush babies)
THE Mushrushes:

Brand new Baby Mushrush. How cute is that little Moo?
Evening chit-chat with my friend, Duck Mouth, aka Baby Momma:
2. Cut My Hair
I haven’t had time to get this done, but I might just order some good scissors online and do it myself.
I put my heart into these intentions. Some were a success, others a learning experience. Each experience, success or failure, is an opportunity to grow.
This Week's Intentions
Looking ahead, I'm setting up new intentions, leaning in on practical, daily living needs:
1. Rescue the orphan calf
Depending on his age, size, and what he’s already eating (or not), he’ll come to my house or stay with the herd. As long as he’s able to feed himself and looks like he’s healthy, he’ll stay with his herd. Moving and introducing him to a new group will be stressful for him. Hopefully, we can avoid stressing him out.
2. Make time for inner child work
I’ve noticed that I’ve been irritable for the past several days… Maybe a week. I thought it was just fatigue from the work demands and worrying about calving. I don’t think that’s what it is. I think someone I have encountered frequently through my jobs has been triggering me. I saw him this morning and realized that he takes a tone when he talks to me that reminds me of my former stepfather. I need to spend some time with mini-me and make sure she’s okay. I’ll probably visit with her tonight when I turn in.
I am committed to these intentions and will put all my effort into achieving them.
Who I’m Reading on Substack
I haven’t read a single word that wasn’t written by someone listed in my recommendations this week. My recommendations are listed (in random rotation, I believe) on my home page. Otherwise, if I’ve had time to be on Substack, I’ve spent that time endlessly revising my “Hero Post.” In fact, this weekly update hasn’t been published yet because I keep going back to the Hero Post to “tweak it just a little and be done.” I am so not done. I don’t know why I’m struggling with it. Maybe it will be easier after my visit with Mini-me. If it isn’t, I might run away and join the circus.
Your Turn
I would love to hear about your intentions and how you're progressing. Please share your thoughts, wins, and lessons in the comments. Let's grow together and support each other. We’re all on this journey of growth and self-improvement together.
Thank you for being a part of my journey and walking this path with me. Remember, it's not about perfection; it's about progress. See you next week with more updates and reflections.
Stay Motivated,
Kati Kate Katherine

Those cows are cute as anything and that’s so sad about mama. I’m glad you are busy moving forward and it sounds like you are doing well.
