Nice essay, Kati. Glad that you're getting happier. Good things happen when we remain positive. You never know, with time, you may just get back to building websites again. (I know you love your new job, but I do recall reading a nostalgic piece about your days doing coding.)
“The Chevy fired right up as soon as I shifted to Park.”
This, and locking yourself on the wrong side of a gate? Us seasoned field workers do all these things when we start out. And we felt just as dumb.
I was on a job when I was 21 where the guys sent me to bring the pickup across the property to where we were working. I walked all the way over, about a half mile and got in, turned the key and it wouldn’t start. I walked all the way back, got one of the guys and walked all the way back.
Turns out I just had to push the clutch in all the way to the floorboards. It started right up. Duh.
I have to sit on the edge of the seat, like a little kid, to drive one of the feed pickups... I almost have to stand up to get the clutch in to start it. Mr B says he's going to get me a booster seat. lol
"It feels good. It feels like I'm alive again."

A side hustle wouldn't hurt me at all.
I’m so happy you are doing well. That’s wonderful news and I’m glad you are enjoying your job. That’s amazing.

I just read your "Sam Stone" piece. Thanks for the nostalgia!
